Dhaka, Jan 08 (V7N) – The Jagannath University Central Students’ Council (JUCSU) election concluded with a decisive victory for the student wing-supported ‘Adommo Jobbian Oikko’ panel. Nawab Faizunnesa Chowdhurani became the sole female hall representative elected to the Hall Council. The panel secured 10 out of 13 hall positions, while winning 15 out of 21 central council seats, including the top three positions.
Jannatul Ummi Tarin was elected Vice President, Sumaiya Tabassum as General Secretary, and Redwana Khawla as Assistant General Secretary. The BNP-supported panel ‘Oikko Bondho Nirbik Jobbian’ won five central council positions, and one independent candidate was also elected.
In the Vice President race, Md. Riazul Islam of the Adommo Jobbian Oikko panel received 5,558 votes, defeating AKM Rakib of the opposing panel, who received 4,688 votes. For the General Secretary position, Abdul Alim Arif received 5,475 votes, while Khadijatul Kubra secured 2,223 votes. In the Assistant General Secretary election, Masud Rana won with 5,020 votes, beating BM Atikur Rahman Tanzil, who received 4,022 votes.
Other winners from the student wing panel include Noor Nabi (Liberation and Democracy Secretary), Ibrahim Khalil (Education and Research), Musa Sukhi Mon Khatun (Science and Technology), Habib Mohammad Faruk (Law and Human Rights), Nur Mohammad (Health and Transport), Mostafizur Rahman (Social Services and Student Welfare), Nawsheen Nawar Joya (International Affairs), and Zarsij Anwar Naeem (Activities Secretary).
The opposition panel secured victories in Library and Seminar (Riyas Al Rakib), Transport (Mahid Hossain), and Literature and Culture (Takrim Ahmed). Members elected include Fatema Akter, Akib Hasan, Shanta Akter, and Md. Abdullah Al Faruk from the student wing panel, while Sadman Amin, Imran Hasan Emon, and independent candidate Zahid Hasan won member seats.
Vote counting began Tuesday evening but faced technical delays, resuming after midnight. Counting continued through the night, with results from 28 centers announced by 9:30 pm.
Following the results, VP Riazul Islam expressed commitment to serve students and work for campus development. GS Abdul Alim Arif highlighted the importance of a free and fair election and emphasized collaborative work for university improvement. AGS Masud Rana pledged to address student concerns actively.
Chief Election Commissioner Kaniz Fatema Kakli stated that despite temporary technical interruptions, all votes were accurately verified and results declared with transparency. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Rezaul Karim described the election as a historic milestone for Jagannath University, conducted peacefully and impartially.
The election marked the first-ever student council election in the university’s history, successfully concluding under festive and orderly conditions.
