Savar, Jan 07 (V7N) — The vote counting for the Jagannath University Central Student Union (JUCSU) elections resumed late Tuesday night after being suspended for over three and a half hours due to a technical issue. Counting restarted with the Anthropology Department votes at 12:40 am. The resumption was announced by Election Commissioner Professor Dr. Shahidul Islam.

According to Dr. Shahidul Islam, around 300 votes had been cast at one center where a technical fault occurred. To ensure accuracy, the votes from this center will first be counted manually and then cross-checked using two OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) machines from different companies. The machine whose results match the manual count will then be used to count votes from other centers.

Election Commissioner Professor Kaniz Fatema Kakli confirmed that after the manual count, both OMR machines will recount the votes for the center. The machine whose results match the manual tally will subsequently be used for counting votes from the remaining centers.

She added, “We have been working continuously from the beginning. We have brought two machines from separate companies to ensure one hundred percent transparency in the counting process.”

Earlier, at 9:20 pm, counting had been halted due to a technical malfunction with the machines. During the suspension, Election Commission officials held discussions with candidates, including vice president and general secretary contenders, to determine the next steps. Following consultations with candidates and stakeholders, a new counting procedure was finalized.

The vote counting is now underway under the revised procedure to maintain accuracy and transparency for the upcoming JUCSU election results.
