Savar, Sep 13 (V7N) – Even after 42 hours of voting, the results of the Jahangirnagar University Central Student Union (JUCSU) elections have not yet been declared, sparking anger among students and candidates.

According to election officials, vote counting for 18 out of 21 halls has been completed, while the remaining three are still underway. Despite assurances from the university administration that results would be announced Friday night, the process remains stalled.

Earlier, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan held an emergency meeting with the Election Commission, where it was decided to increase manpower to speed up the count. However, the delay continues.

Amid the uncertainty, Election Commission member Prof. Mafrohi Sattar of the Pharmacy Department tendered his resignation, citing irregularities and lack of a level playing field. He claimed he had faced pressure not to resign, but added: “If I do not resign now and later speak of irregularities, people will question why I stayed silent.” Prof. Sattar is also the president of the JU branch of the Nationalist Teachers’ Forum.

The resignation has drawn criticism from candidates. Ferdous Al Hasan, AGS candidate of the Integrated Student Alliance supported by Islami Chhatra Shibir, alleged that Sattar stepped down to undermine the credibility of the polls. “He has fled the battlefield after failing to implement his conspiracy,” Ferdous claimed.

Voting for JUCSU and hall parliament elections was held on Thursday with 11,743 registered voters. About 67–68 percent turnout was recorded. Vote counting began around 10:15 pm but was suspended on Friday afternoon amid disputes over whether to use OMR machines or manual counting. The process later resumed manually with additional polling officers deployed.
