Dhaka, Sep 09 (V7N) – The Anti-Discrimination Student Union has accused Chhatra Dal candidates of receiving special privileges during the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections.
Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday afternoon, the panel’s Vice President (VP) candidate Abdul Quader and General Secretary (GS) candidate Abu Baker Majumder alleged that Chhatra Dal has been violating the electoral code of conduct from the outset of the campaign.
The panel claimed that Chhatra Dal’s VP candidate Abidul Islam entered polling stations to solicit votes, an act they described as a clear breach of rules. “Even the minimum code of conduct is not being followed. They have increased their vote bank in the name of MPhil,” Quader alleged.
He further criticized the election process, saying, “The DUCSU elections are being held in a chaotic manner. No action is being taken even after repeated complaints of code of conduct violations.”
The Anti-Discrimination Student Union leaders also highlighted the difficulties faced by students waiting in long queues under sweltering heat, casting doubt on how effective the voting process would ultimately be.
Despite the allegations, many students reported a festive atmosphere at the polling centers, with long lines of voters seen throughout the campus.
Voting, which began at 8 am, will continue until 4 pm, with students in line before the deadline permitted to cast their ballots afterward. A total of 39,775 students are eligible to vote, including 20,873 male and 18,902 female voters, across 810 booths in 8 centers. 471 candidates are contesting for 28 posts in this year’s DUCSU elections.
