Dhaka, Sep 09 (V7N) – A polling officer was immediately relieved of duty after mistakenly issuing two ballot papers to a student during the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) and Hall Parliament elections.

The incident occurred at the Amar Ekushey Hall polling station on the second floor of Curzon Hall. The officer, identified as Ziaur Rahman, handed over two ballots instead of one, prompting swift action from the university administration.

According to the Dhaka University Public Relations Department, the voter himself acknowledged that the incident was an unintentional mistake. Nevertheless, the administration acted promptly, removing the officer from his election responsibilities to ensure transparency.

The university authorities reiterated their commitment to conducting a free, fair, and impartial election.

Voting, which began at 8 am in a festive environment, will continue until 4 pm, with students in line before the deadline allowed to cast their votes afterward.

This year, a total of 39,775 students are eligible to vote, including 20,873 male and 18,902 female voters. A total of 471 candidates are competing for 28 DUCSU posts, with polling taking place across 810 booths in 8 centers.
