Naogaon, July 14 (V7N) – In a shocking incident at the Chhatabhag School and College in Nalhangan, the institution’s principal, Ataur Rahman, was physically assaulted by a local resident, Alamgir Hossain, on Monday morning. The attack occurred at around 8:30 AM when the principal arrived at the school. Alamgir reportedly assaulted the principal in front of the school campus.

Background of the Dispute

The altercation between Ataur Rahman and Alamgir Hossain stems from a longstanding dispute over a fish farming pond in the area. According to sources from Chhatabhag School and College, the two men had been in conflict for some time. Additionally, six months ago, Alamgir’s daughter, a 9th-grade student at the school, was reprimanded by the principal for misbehaving and not adhering to school discipline. Enraged by this, Alamgir filed a complaint with the Nalhangan police against both the principal and a teacher.

It was these events that led to the attack on the principal, according to college faculty members.

The Attack and Response

Ataur Rahman described the attack, stating that Alamgir Hossain, also known as Ali (40), slapped, punched, and kicked him in public. Rahman claimed that Alamgir even tried to strike him with a hammer, but he narrowly avoided the blow thanks to intervention from local residents.

Following the incident, teachers and students of Chhatabhag School and College organized a human chain protest at 11 AM to express their condemnation of the attack and demand justice for the principal.

Authorities Respond

After being alerted to the incident, police from the Nalhangan Police Station arrived at the scene. Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam confirmed that the police had responded promptly. Ataur Rahman is in the process of filing a formal written complaint at the police station. Authorities have assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted, and appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings.
