Pabna, Sept 30 (V7N) – Rail communication between Dhaka and northern Bangladesh resumed on Monday morning, more than five hours after three carriages of the Panchagarh Express derailed near Bhangaura Railway Station in Pabna. No casualties were reported.

The derailment occurred at around 4:00 a.m. when the Dhaka-bound Panchagarh Express, carrying more than a thousand passengers, reached Bhangaura upazila in Pabna. Witnesses said a loud noise preceded the derailment, prompting panic among passengers, many of whom jumped from the train. Bhangaura police quickly arrived at the scene to ensure passenger safety.

Railway authorities began rescue operations at around 7:30 a.m., about three and a half hours after the incident. By 9:30 a.m., the stranded Burimari Express, which had been waiting at Chatmohar Station, was able to depart for Dhaka. At 10:30 a.m., the Panchagarh Express resumed its journey toward Panchagarh.

Abdul Malek, Station Master of Bhangaura Railway Station, confirmed that the three derailed carriages were recovered and services restored.

Nazim Kayser, Divisional Engineer-2 of the Pakshi Western Railway Zone, said normal operations resumed immediately after the recovery. “We worked to restore train traffic as quickly as possible,” he noted.

The derailment caused severe delays for passengers, particularly those traveling home for the Puja holidays, but officials confirmed there were no injuries. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
