Dhaka, Sep 25 (V7N) – The government has announced that St. Martin’s Island will reopen to tourists from November 1, with restrictions in place to ensure environmental protection and visitor management. The island will remain open to visitors until the end of February 2026.
At a press conference organized on the occasion of World Tourism Day on Thursday, Nasreen Jahan, Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, said that a maximum of 2,000 tourists will be allowed on the island each day.
“For the first two months, tourists must return the same day. Overnight stays will only be permitted in January and February,” she explained.
Sheikh Bashir Uddin, Advisor to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, added that a comprehensive tourism policy is currently being drafted. “If there is an overall improvement, the tourism industry will also move forward,” he said.
Regarding the much-anticipated third terminal of Shahjalal International Airport, the advisor noted that no final decision has been made on its inauguration date. “The government has invested Tk 21,000 crore in this project. Work is ongoing, and we are trying to open it as soon as possible,” he added.
