Rangpur, Aug 12 (V7N) – Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Dr. Abdul Momen emphasized the importance of providing specific and credible information regarding corruption allegations, including those against members of the advisory council, to initiate investigations.
He made the remarks while attending two separate programs in Rangpur on Tuesday afternoon. The divisional administration organized a meeting on preventing corruption and promoting good governance at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room, where Dr. Momen was the chief guest. Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Shahidul Islam, Range DIG Aminul Islam, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Majid Ali, DC Mohammad Rabiul Faisal, and other officials also spoke at the event.
Dr. Momen stated, “It is not enough to verbally allege that crores of taka have been embezzled without evidence. Specific information must be brought forward; otherwise, such allegations cannot stand. Even if there are allegations against members of the advisory council, they must be concrete to be investigated.”
He further highlighted that over the past 16 years, mechanisms were in place to suppress complaints from contractors, government officials, journalists, and others, often with the involvement of high-level government figures, resulting in a lack of reported cases. Dr. Momen urged all stakeholders to cooperate to protect public funds and ensure the continuity of anti-corruption efforts regardless of the political government in power.
Referring to the press as “a mirror of society,” the ACC chairman urged journalists to hold the commission accountable, stating, “If we cannot do our job properly, you should criticize us.”
He also mentioned ongoing efforts to revive many old corruption cases that had previously been suppressed.
Later in the day, Dr. Momen took part in a public hearing at the Rangpur DC office.
