Pabna, August 3 (V7N) – The Jubo Dal of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has expelled one of its union-level leaders following a violent attack on a branch of the Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) in Chatmohar upazila of Pabna, triggered by a lawsuit over loan default.

The expelled leader, Lokman Hossain, who served as the convener of the Jubo Dal's Faijlzana Union unit and a sitting member of the Faijlzana Union Parishad’s Ward 3, is accused of leading an assault on the Faijlzana branch of RAKUB on Thursday, July 31, around 1:30 PM.

According to the bank’s chief officer, S M Bashir Uddin, Lokman Hossain took a Tk 3 lakh cash credit (CC) loan from the Faijlzana branch in 2018. Such loans require annual renewal, but Hossain reportedly failed to do so for the past two years. As per banking regulations, his account was classified as defaulted, prompting the bank to file a legal case in the Pabna Money Loan Court on May 25, 2025 (Case No. 84/25).

Upon learning about the case, Hossain allegedly stormed the bank with a group of followers. During the attack, they vandalized glass partitions, furniture, and assaulted branch manager Shamsuzzaman along with several other staff members. Panic broke out inside the bank as staff and clients attempted to flee.

Locals rushed to the scene and rescued the injured manager, who was later admitted to the Atghoria Upazila Health Complex. Other injured staff received primary treatment. Police arrived at the scene shortly after and began an investigation.

In response to the incident, a statement signed at midnight on Friday, August 1, by Azizul Haque Liton, Joint Convener of the Pabna District Jubo Dal, announced Lokman Hossain’s immediate expulsion from the party, including termination of his primary membership.

District Convener Ilyas Ahmed Himel Rana confirmed the decision and stated, “Initial investigation has found credible evidence of misconduct. No one is allowed to use the party’s name or position for illegal acts.”

The statement further clarified that the party would not bear responsibility for Hossain’s actions and instructed all members to sever organizational ties with him.

This incident has sparked local concern, highlighting the growing tension between political actors and public institutions in rural regions. Police investigations into the assault and vandalism are ongoing, and no arrests had been reported as of the time of publication.
