Dinajpur, July 17 (V7N) — A Facebook post by Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Mosfekur Rahman sparked outrage and protests in Dinajpur after he mocked the recent attack on National Committee for the Protection of Fundamental Rights (NCP) members in Gopalganj.
On Wednesday evening at around 6:30 p.m., ASP Mosfekur Rahman posted from his personal Facebook profile, commenting ironically on the attack:
"I heard the AC inside the tank is quite comfortable."
This post, perceived as a mockery of the victims of the attack on July fighters during the NCP’s public meeting, triggered immediate backlash.
At approximately 8:30 p.m., members of the anti-discrimination student movement gathered in front of the Dinajpur Superintendent of Police (SP) office. They staged a sit-in protest demanding the arrest and removal of ASP Mosfekur Rahman.
Demonstrators accused the officer of insensitivity and demanded accountability from law enforcement institutions. The SP of Dinajpur, Marufat Hossain, arrived on-site and assured protestors that ASP Mosfekur had been withdrawn from his post in Dinajpur.
Despite the removal, student leaders vowed to continue their protest until legal action is taken against the officer.
"This isn't just about a Facebook post. It's about accountability and respect for the martyrs and the people under attack," said one student leader.
The incident reflects growing tensions surrounding recent violence in Gopalganj, where alleged state-backed attackers disrupted an NCP event, injuring several activists including prominent July movement veterans.
Authorities have yet to confirm whether formal disciplinary action or legal proceedings will follow against the officer. Meanwhile, the student movement announced further programs to demand justice.
