Tangail, July 7 (V7N) - Residents of Kalihati in Tangail have held a press conference protesting what they claim is a false and harassing allegation against retired army personnel Md. Anisur Rahman. The event took place Monday morning at the Patol Bazar premises in Duragpur Union.

In a written statement delivered at the press briefing, Ayesha Siddika Swapna, President of the Mohiladal (Women’s Wing) of Duragpur Union, stated that Md. Anisur Rahman, a retired army member from Ward 3 of the Kadimhamjani area in Duragpur Union, is currently living in Elenga with his family and runs a plastic recycling business.

According to her account, Anisur became unintentionally involved in a police matter after a local businessman, Sohel Bepari, who had business dealings involving goods exchange, was detained by police. During questioning, Sohel named Anisur Rahman as someone he had transacted with. Later, Sohel also named another individual from the Mogra area, who was subsequently arrested.

Ayesha Siddika claimed that Anisur Rahman had no involvement in the incident and was unaware of the police case. She further alleged that Kalihati Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Shahidul Islam Molla confirmed Anisur's name appeared in the report but also stated that he was not being arrested at this stage.

“We strongly protest and condemn this false allegation. Md. Anisur Rahman is completely innocent,” said Siddika. “As residents of the area, we demand that law enforcement take proper steps to investigate any case before arresting someone, ensuring that innocent people are not harassed without evidence.”

She emphasized that those who are truly responsible for any crime should be brought to justice, but urged that false and politically motivated harassment of innocent individuals be stopped immediately.

The press conference was attended by several notable community members including Duragpur Union BNP President Md. Abdul Latif, General Secretary Abdus Samad Azad, Patol Bazar Association President Shahidul Islam Pramanik, and community elder Haji Abdul Malek Master, among others from the local BNP and residents of the union.

Speakers at the event demanded that Md. Anisur Rahman be cleared of all false charges and that a public report be issued confirming his innocence. They called on local authorities to act justly and responsibly in handling such cases.
