Rajshahi, Feb 1 (V7N) — A man allegedly killed his mother with a sharp weapon and left her body on a roadside in Rajshahi city on Saturday night before being detained by local residents and handed over to police.

The incident took place around 9:30 pm on Saturday at the Old Krishi Bank intersection in the Kharkhari area of Rajshahi Metropolitan City. The victim was identified as Sohagi Khatun, 55, wife of Azizul Islam of the same locality.

According to eyewitnesses and police sources, the accused, identified as Suman, was addicted to drugs. He reportedly demanded money from his mother to buy drugs. When she refused due to her inability to provide the money, Suman allegedly attacked her with a sharp weapon, causing fatal injuries. Sohagi Khatun died at the scene.

After the incident, Suman allegedly left his mother’s body on the road and returned home, where he locked himself inside a room. Upon learning of the matter, local residents surrounded the house, detained Suman, and informed the police.

Police later arrived at the scene, took Suman into custody, and recovered the body of the deceased. The body was sent to the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Chandrima Police Station Officer-in-Charge Monirul Islam said the body had been recovered and sent for post-mortem examination, and the accused had been brought to the police station for questioning. He added that preliminary investigation suggests the accused is a drug addict and that legal action is being taken against him.
