Cox’s Bazar, Oct 5 (V7N) — In a special pre-dawn operation, Ukhiya police in Cox’s Bazar arrested four suspects and recovered a cache of locally made firearms, ammunition, and 2,000 Yaba pills from a house in Palongkhali Union’s Moragachtala area.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by Sub-Inspector Mizanur Rahman raided the residence of one Faridul Alam early Sunday morning. During the operation, officers seized two locally made one-shooter guns, three rounds of 12-bore shotgun cartridges, one empty rifle shell, one empty shotgun shell, and the Yaba tablets hidden inside the premises.
Police confirmed that four individuals, including 20-year-old Faridul Alam, were arrested at the scene. They are currently being interrogated to determine their involvement in arms and drug trafficking networks operating in the border area.
Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ziaul Haque verified the incident, stating that separate cases are being filed under the Arms Act and Narcotics Control Act. “Our drives against drugs and illegal weapons will continue. We are committed to curbing border-related crimes and ensuring public safety,” he added.
Authorities suspect that the seized weapons and narcotics were being stored for cross-border smuggling operations, as Ukhiya’s Palongkhali region is known for its proximity to the Myanmar border — a hotspot for Yaba trafficking.
The arrested individuals have been placed under police custody for further investigation, and the recovered items have been sent for forensic examination.
