Madhabpur, Oct 01 (V7N) – A special operation by the Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) led to the seizure of a large consignment of Indian cumin (jeera) and fuchka snacks hidden beneath stones in a truck in Madhabpur upazila. The estimated market value of the confiscated goods is approximately Tk 82.5 lakh.
The operation took place in the early hours of Wednesday in the Noahati area, based on a tip-off received by a patrol team from the 55th BGB Battalion. The team stopped a suspicious truck and discovered the illegal items concealed under a layer of stones, a tactic reportedly used by smugglers to evade law enforcement.
According to BGB sources, the smugglers planned to transport the seized spices and snacks from India to various locations within Bangladesh. The items were hidden ingeniously to avoid detection by authorities.
Lieutenant Colonel Md. Tanzilur Rahman, Commanding Officer of Habiganj Battalion, stated, “No matter the methods employed by smugglers, the BGB remains vigilant in preventing smuggling and illegal trade. Surveillance along the border has been significantly intensified, and such operations will continue regularly in the future.”
The confiscated truck and goods are currently being handed over to Habiganj Customs and the Department of Narcotics Control for legal processing.
