Habiganj, Sept 28 (V7N) – Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has intensified its nationwide crackdown against smuggling and narcotics trafficking, with a special operation carried out by the Habiganj Battalion (55 BGB) on Saturday morning, September 27. During the raid, a patrol team seized a truck loaded with a large quantity of Indian cumin seeds, Kaberi mehendi (cosmetics), and other contraband items worth an estimated Tk 31.41 lakh.

According to BGB, the operation was launched based on intelligence inputs. A patrol team set up a checkpoint at the Muktijoddha Chattar area along the Dhaka–Sylhet Highway in Madhabpur. When signaled to stop, the driver of a suspicious truck attempted to flee the scene, abandoning the vehicle. A subsequent search of the truck led to the recovery of a significant consignment of Indian cumin seeds and cosmetic products illegally brought across the border.

Lieutenant Colonel Md. Tanzilur Rahman, commanding officer of 55 BGB, stated that their primary objective is to secure the border and protect the country from the threat of smuggling and narcotics. “We have already achieved remarkable success in several major operations. With continued public cooperation, our anti-smuggling efforts will become even more effective,” he said.

He further added that surveillance in border regions will be strengthened, with sudden raids and special drives to continue as part of BGB’s zero-tolerance policy against smuggling and illegal trade.
