Sylhet, Sept 17 (V7N) – Police in Sylhet have arrested five members of a gang known locally as the ‘Unconscious Party’ for allegedly drugging passengers and stealing cash, mobile phones, and other valuables. The suspects were sent to jail through the court on Tuesday.
The arrests were made late Monday night around 12:30 a.m. in the Kumargaon area under Jalalabad Police Station. The detainees are identified as Rukon Mia, 27, son of the late Harunur Rashid of Pirer Bazar Tikarpur, Shahporan; Raihan Ahmad Zisan, 34, son of Anwar Hossain of Shahi Eidgah, Sylhet city; Robiul Alam, 26, son of Rehmat Ali of Pir Mohalla; Sohel Ahmad, 48, son of the late Shafik Mia of Khasdobir; and Nazrul Islam, 50, son of the late Anu Mia of Khasdobir.
Sylhet Metropolitan Police Media Officer, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saiful Islam, said the gang used various tactics to incapacitate passengers in the city and steal cash, mobile phones, and other valuables. Acting on confidential information, police conducted a raid in the Kumargaon area and apprehended the suspects.
