Dhaka, Sept 6 (V7N) – Bangladesh Coast Guard has arrested four members of the notorious Sundarbans gang led by “Chhoto Suman” and seized firearms and ammunition, alongside separate operations targeting drug traffickers and gang members carrying marijuana and local weapons.
Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haque, media officer for the Coast Guard in Dhaka, said that based on secret intelligence, Coast Guard personnel conducted a raid around 1 a.m. on Saturday in the Chhoto Padma Canal area near Pashur River in the Sundarbans. The bandits attempted to flee upon noticing the authorities, but four members of Chhoto Suman’s gang were apprehended after a chase. The officers recovered one single-barrel gun, four live bullets, and four empty rounds. The arrested bandits are Md. Billal Hossain (25), Md. Robiul Sheikh (32), Md. Jinnat Hawlader (35), and Md. Kalam Gazi (24), residents of Khulna and Bagerhat districts, who have long supplied arms, ammunition, and logistics to the gang.
In a separate midnight operation at Mohsin College area in Shyamnagar, Satkhira, Coast Guard personnel seized 50 yaba pills worth around Tk 25,000 and cash of Tk 17,580, arresting one drug trafficker.
Earlier at 5 a.m., a joint operation by the Coast Guard, Navy, and police near the sluice gate in Labanchara, Khulna, resulted in the seizure of four homemade firearms and 200 grams of marijuana worth nearly Tk 6,400, arresting a member of a local teenage gang.
All confiscated items and arrested individuals are currently under legal processing. Lt. Commander Siam-ul-Haque emphasized that the Bangladesh Coast Guard will continue such operations to keep the country’s coastal areas and the Sundarbans free of drugs and criminal gangs.
