Bagerhat, Aug 30 (V7N) – Police in Bagerhat's Rampal have arrested two individuals, including the leader of a robbery gang, as they attempted to flee after committing a robbery while wearing police uniforms. The arrests were made early on Friday (August 29) morning in the Mollahat area following a police operation.
The arrested suspects are Mohammad Riaz (30), the leader of the gang and the son of Tara Mia from Madhabdi, Narsingdi district, and Al Amin (40), the son of Saidul Hossain from Gazipur's Sadar Upazila. According to Rampal Police Station's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Atiqur Rahman, the suspects are currently being interrogated at the police station.
Riaz and Al Amin were part of a larger gang that carried out a robbery in Gaurambha Union’s Chitra village in Rampal Upazila on Thursday night (August 28). The gang, dressed in police uniforms, broke into the home of Asad and stole approximately Tk 5, lakh in cash along with several gold ornaments before fleeing the scene.
Police were alerted after a call was made to the national emergency service 999. Upon reaching the location, authorities used technological tools to track down the suspects. By 7 a.m. on Friday (August 29), Riaz and Al Amin were apprehended while five to six other gang members managed to escape.
During the operation, the police recovered several items including a mobile jammer, two hand grenades, four sets of police uniforms, stolen money amounting to Tk 5,16,000, grill and gas cutters, and three homemade weapons.
OC Atiqur Rahman stated that a case would be filed against the arrested individuals and they would be presented before the Bagerhat district court on Saturday.
The arrest of Mohammad Riaz and Al Amin, involved in a robbery while posing as police officers, has led to the recovery of stolen money and weapons. The investigation continues, with further efforts underway to capture the remaining members of the gang.
