Dhaka, Aug 19 (V7N) – The low pressure system over the west-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining northwest Bay crossed the South Odisha coast early Tuesday (6 am, August 19) and is now centered over coastal Odisha and nearby areas. It is expected to move further northwestward and gradually weaken, according to a special bulletin issued by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
Signed by Meteorologist Dr. Omar Farooq, Bulletin No. 2 warned that due to the system’s influence, significant air pressure variations are occurring in the North Bay of Bengal. As a result, gusty or stormy winds may sweep across the North Bay, adjacent coastal areas, and maritime ports of Bangladesh.
Authorities have instructed the sea ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra to hoist local cautionary signal No. 3.
Meanwhile, fishing boats and trawlers operating in the North Bay have been advised to remain close to shore and proceed with utmost caution until further notice.
