Cox's Bazar, July 27 (V7N) – The impact of a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal continues to batter the coastal district of Cox's Bazar, causing rough seas, intermittent rain, and persistent flooding in several low-lying areas.
Since Sunday morning, the region has experienced sporadic rainfall accompanied by strong winds, further worsening conditions along the coastline. Powerful waves have been crashing ashore, prompting concerns among residents and local authorities.
The Ali Akbar Deil embankment in Kutubdia, which previously collapsed, remains unrepaired, increasing the vulnerability of nearby villages to tidal surges. Preliminary assessments suggest significant damage to property and infrastructure in the area.
Several areas, including Aniser Deil, Tabalar Char, and the vicinity of the wind power plant, have remained inundated for three consecutive days. Similar flooding has been reported in the low-lying regions of Dhalghata and Matarbari in Maheshkhali.
In Teknaf, sections of the Marine Drive road—a vital route for tourism and transport—have been damaged due to the persistent adverse weather conditions.
Local residents fear further damage if weather patterns do not improve, while disaster management teams are on alert. Authorities have urged fishermen and residents in vulnerable coastal areas to remain cautious and follow weather updates closely.
