Dhaka, Dec 15 (V7N) – A case has been filed over the assassination attempt on Sharif Osman Hadi, convener of Inquilab Mancha and prospective parliamentary candidate for Dhaka-8. The case was registered late Sunday night at Paltan Police Station.

Paltan Police duty officer, Sub-Inspector (SI) Rokibul Hasan, confirmed the registration of the case at 6:40 am on Monday. He said that the name of the complainant is not officially known, as a relative of Hadi has filed the case. Inspector (Operations) Yasin Mia of Paltan Police Station has been assigned to investigate.

The attack occurred on Friday afternoon around noon on Box Culvert Road in Old Paltan, one day after the nomination schedule for the 13th National Parliamentary Election was announced. Hadi was shot while on the street by two assailants riding a motorcycle. The suspected attackers were identified as Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Hossain.

In connection with the investigation, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested three people over the past 24 hours: Faisal Karim Masud’s wife Samia, his brother-in-law Shipu, and his girlfriend Maria. The RAB confirmed their custody and handed them over to police for further investigation.

Hadi, who was shot in the head, is currently receiving treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. His condition remains critical. According to the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, arrangements are underway to transfer him to Singapore by air ambulance for advanced treatment.

The attack highlights growing concerns over political violence in the run-up to the upcoming national election and has triggered heightened security measures in the capital.
