Dhaka, Sept 16 (V7N) – Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sajjat Ali has instructed police officers to maintain the highest level of neutrality during the upcoming national parliamentary elections. He emphasized that individuals with pending arrest warrants must be apprehended and stressed that law enforcement must not show any bias towards any political party, ideology, or individual.

The directive came on Monday during DMP’s monthly (August) crime review meeting held at the Rajarbagh Police Auditorium in the capital. The commissioner also directed all police stations to intensify vigilance to prevent flash processions organized by banned outfits.

Responding to concerns raised by several officials about the rapid release of arrested suspects on bail, the commissioner said that bail is a matter for the courts but assured that the issue would be discussed further. Drawing on the example of the recently held DUCSU election, he noted that collective efforts can ensure a fair and peaceful electoral process.

Commissioner Sajjat Ali further instructed police officials to take early preparations for the upcoming Durga Puja and stressed the importance of cultivating human qualities in policing.

Additional Commissioner (Administration) Md. Sarwar informed the meeting that DMP is undergoing modernization through the use of digital technology, including the introduction of video prosecution against traffic law violators. Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) S.N. Md. Nazrul Islam highlighted the need for stronger measures to curb street muggings by identifying hotspots and increasing patrols. He also called for action against financiers and supporters of banned organizations.

At the meeting, Joint Commissioner (Crime) Md. Faruk Hossain presented an overview of August’s crime statistics, covering incidents of robbery, theft, murder, unnatural deaths, road accidents, violence against women and children, rape, narcotics, and arms recovery.

In recognition of exemplary service in crime control, law enforcement, and public safety in August, DMP officers across various ranks and categories were awarded by the commissioner. Senior officials including Additional Commissioner (CTTC) Masud Karim, Additional Commissioner (DB) Shafiqul Islam, Additional Commissioner (Logistics) Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali, and Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Zillur Rahman were also present.
