Dhaka, Jan 05 (V7N) – The sudden rise in retail prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in Bangladesh has sparked concern and inconvenience among consumers.
During a meeting on Sunday at the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Operators Association of Bangladesh (LOAB) cited several factors contributing to the price hike, including increased shipping costs during the winter season, heightened demand for fuel in Europe, and temporary disruptions in supply chains. Despite these challenges, LOAB assured that the country’s current LPG reserves remain satisfactory and that there are no import restrictions or price ceilings in place.
However, the association noted that some retailers in the market are selling LPG at prices higher than the government-regulated rate, causing consumer distress and market instability. LOAB urged authorities to take immediate action against such overpricing.
The statement emphasized the need for strict monitoring, law enforcement, and market supervision to protect consumer interests and maintain order in the LPG sector. LOAB also called for transparency and stability in the market, stressing the importance of ensuring that LPG is sold at fair, government-mandated prices.
