Narayanganj, Nov 02 (V7N)- Garment workers have blocked the Dhaka-Narayanganj Ring Road in the Shibu Market area, demanding a minimum monthly wage of Tk 30,000.

Workers from Shibu Market, Katherpul and surrounding areas gathered in a procession at around 12:00 noon on Monday (November 2) to press home their demands.

Later, they took positions on both sides of the Dhaka-Narayanganj Ring Road, blocking the overpass and adjacent roads. During the demonstration, workers chanted various slogans demanding an increase in the minimum monthly wage to Tk 30,000.

The protesting workers said their current salaries were insufficient to meet the rising cost of living, making it increasingly difficult to support their families.

They also pointed out that salaries of government employees had increased, while garment workers had not received a significant wage adjustment for several years.

Meanwhile, the blockade has caused severe traffic congestion, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded on both sides of the road.

Commuters, bus passengers and pedestrians have been facing considerable difficulties. Many passengers have been forced to leave their vehicles and continue their journeys on foot, while others have reportedly remained stuck in traffic for nearly an hour.

The situation has disrupted normal movement across the area, causing widespread inconvenience to commuters and residents.
