Dhaka, Aug 25 (V7N)- The government plans to complete elections to all five tiers of local government—union parishads, municipalities, upazila parishads, district councils and city corporations—by July next year, State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam has said.
He made the remarks after a meeting with Danish Ambassador to Bangladesh Christian Brix Moller at the Secretariat on Tuesday.
The State Minister said discussions with the Election Commission (EC) will be held next week regarding the elections. The EC will ultimately determine the election schedule and dates, he added.
Mir Shahe Alam also discussed development cooperation with the Danish ambassador. He said Denmark will cooperate with Bangladesh in improving water supply management in Dhaka.
In addition, Denmark will provide Tk 100 crore in assistance for the Rohingya humanitarian response, according to the State Minister.
The government expects coordination with the Election Commission and relevant authorities to help complete the five-tier local government election process within the announced timeframe.
