Dhaka, Aug 06 (V7N) – Social Welfare and Women and Child Affairs Minister AZM Zahid Hossain on Thursday said transparency and accountability have been ensured in the distribution of family cards, adding that the pilot phase of the programme has been completed successfully.

Speaking to reporters after the fifth meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Family Card Distribution at the Secretariat, the minister announced that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to inaugurate the second phase of the Family Card Programme in Kishoreganj on August 16.

He said the government plans to distribute 4.02 million family cards by June next year, while the process of collecting information on poor and extremely poor households through door-to-door surveys is expected to be completed within the next four to six weeks.

The minister assured that all eligible beneficiaries would receive family cards, emphasizing that there would be no discrimination in the distribution process.

Following the meeting, AZM Zahid Hossain acknowledged that errors had occurred during data collection in Kalmakanda of Netrokona and Jashore, but said those issues had since been corrected.

He added that the government has also taken measures to prevent any individual from receiving duplicate social allowance benefits under different programmes.

The Family Card Programme is part of the government's broader initiative to strengthen social protection by ensuring assistance reaches eligible low-income households through a transparent and accountable distribution system.
