Dhaka, July 30 (V7N)- Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain has urged doctors to discourage pregnant mothers from undergoing cesarean sections unnecessarily and encourage mothers to breastfeed their children.
He made the remarks at a research program held at the National Institute of Preventive and Social Medicine (NIPSOM) in Mohakhali, Dhaka, on Thursday (July 30) morning.
The Health Minister said child malnutrition is one of the major reasons behind measles-related deaths. He said that in the past, deaths from measles were rare, but the situation has changed due to inadequate breastfeeding and a lack of balanced nutrition among children.
He stressed the need to ensure proper breastfeeding and nutritious food for children to prevent such health risks.
Sakhawat Hossain said doctors are the last hope for patients and that their sincere behavior and compassionate communication can help patients recover mentally as well.
He added that doctors have been blessed with special skills and responsibilities to serve humanity.
The Health Minister also expressed concern over the rising number of tuberculosis (TB) cases in the country and sought cooperation from doctors to improve the healthcare sector.
He said training programs are being arranged for healthcare workers. Besides, initiatives have been taken to provide 10 dialysis machines at the upazila level and introduce physiotherapy services there.
