Dhaka, Jun 16 (V7N)- Garment workers of NASA Group staged a protest by blocking the Mohakhali–Tejgaon road in the capital on Tuesday morning, demanding payment of their May salary and settlement of arrear bills along with a 7-point set of demands.
The demonstration began around 10:00 am, bringing traffic to a complete standstill on the busy route. As vehicles remained stuck on all sides, commuters faced severe disruption and many were forced to walk to their destinations amid the gridlock.
Protesting workers alleged that the factory was shut down without prior notice after the Eid holidays, leaving them in distress and financial hardship. They warned that they would continue their blockade until their demands are met.
Meanwhile, police officials from the Tejgaon division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police said discussions were underway with the protesting workers. Authorities are reportedly trying to clear the road while continuing negotiations with relevant stakeholders regarding the workers’ demands.
