Dhaka, Jun 14 (V7N) – Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon has said that a large number of pending legal cases are creating significant obstacles in decision-making within the Ministry of Education.
He made the remarks while speaking at a UNICEF-organized workshop on the education sector held at a hotel in the capital on Sunday morning.
The Education Minister stated that around 83,000 cases are currently pending against the ministry, making it difficult to take timely decisions on several administrative and policy-related matters. He also suggested that delays in the judiciary are contributing to complications in the education system.
He further said that UNICEF has highlighted that Bangladesh still faces a relatively high student dropout rate compared to other countries. In response, he said the government plans to expand school feeding programs to encourage children to remain in education.
The minister also outlined ongoing efforts to modernize the education system, including providing students with uniforms, shoes, school bags, and introducing initiatives such as one teacher per subject, tablet-based learning, and multimedia classrooms.
Officials present at the workshop said improving access to education and reducing dropout rates remain key priorities, with continued collaboration between the government and development partners such as UNICEF.
Education experts note that addressing administrative delays and strengthening school support programs will be critical to improving learning outcomes nationwide.
