Dhaka, Jun 10 (V7N) – Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury is set to present the national budget for the 2026–27 fiscal year in Parliament tomorrow (June 11) afternoon, marking the first budget of the Tarique Rahman–led BNP government.
The proposed budget size has been set at Tk 938,000 crore, with the government prioritizing economic recovery, investment growth, and job creation amid ongoing global economic uncertainties.
Officials said rising expenditure pressures—including increased subsidy spending, expansion of social safety net programs, higher interest payments on public debt, and implementation of a revised salary structure for government employees—have significantly driven up overall budget costs.
Despite these challenges, the government has outlined efforts to bring inflation down to 7.5 percent in the next fiscal year while maintaining macroeconomic stability.
A key concern in the upcoming budget is a record fiscal deficit of Tk 243,000 crore, which authorities describe as one of the major challenges in maintaining financial discipline and ensuring effective implementation of development plans.
According to budget documents, around 67 percent of total expenditure will be allocated for operating costs, while the remainder will go toward the Annual Development Programme (ADP), loans and advances, and food management.
On the revenue side, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) is expected to remain the primary source of domestic income, supplemented by internal borrowing, external loans, and other financing sources.
Economists note that balancing revenue collection with rising expenditure demands will be crucial for achieving the government’s economic targets in the coming fiscal year.
The budget presentation is expected to outline key policy directions for stabilizing inflation, attracting investment, and addressing employment challenges in the country.
