Dhaka, Jun 05 (V7N) – Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan arrived in Dhaka on Thursday (June 4) night on a three-day official visit aimed at strengthening political and strategic relations between Bangladesh and Türkiye.

He was received at the airport by Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam and the Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir were also present to welcome the Turkish minister.

During his stay in Dhaka, Hakan Fidan is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. He will also hold meetings with senior government policymakers and participate in formal discussions with political leaders.

As part of his visit, the Turkish foreign minister is expected to visit Rohingya refugee camps and assess the humanitarian situation there. His meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled for Saturday.

The visit is significant as it marks the first trip by a Turkish foreign minister to Bangladesh since December 2020. It is also the first visit by the foreign minister of a major partner country since the BNP-led government assumed office.

Diplomatic sources indicate that key topics of discussion are likely to include trade and investment, defense cooperation, security dialogue, and coordination on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
