Dhaka, May 04 (V7N)- BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed hope that the newly elected women members of parliament will play an important role in institutionalizing democracy and revitalizing the National Parliament.
He made the remarks on Monday (May 4) after paying tribute at the graves of former President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital. Newly elected women MPs from the ruling party alliance’s reserved seats were present during the visit.
Mirza Fakhrul said the women lawmakers had pledged to contribute to strengthening democracy in Bangladesh, making the parliament more effective, and establishing the National Parliament as the center of all democratic activities.
“The women members have taken an oath that they will work to institutionalize democracy in Bangladesh and make parliament functional and effective,” he said.
The BNP Secretary General also expressed confidence that the newly elected women MPs would play a constructive role in supporting both the country and democratic values.
