Chattogram, Apr 17 (V7N) – State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit has said that Bangladesh currently has sufficient energy capacity to meet demand in April and May, with efforts underway to build reserves for June.
He made the remarks on Friday morning (April 17) after visiting the Eastern Refinery Limited in Patenga.
The State Minister said the country now holds jet fuel reserves equivalent to about six weeks under an assured supply system. “Considering this stock, we are fully prepared and have been able to meet fuel demand for April and May,” he said.
He added that the government is actively working to procure fuel from various international sources. However, due to the temporary suspension of refining operations at the Eastern Refinery, greater emphasis is currently being placed on importing refined fuel.
Regarding future capacity, the minister noted that the second unit of the Eastern Refinery is expected to begin operations in 2029, which will significantly enhance the country’s fuel refining capabilities.
On power management, he said the government is currently prioritizing electricity supply to the industrial and agricultural sectors to maintain economic stability and production.
