Dhaka, Apr 10 (V7N)– Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has stepped up nationwide operations, including in border areas, to stabilize the edible oil market and prevent illegal activities such as hoarding, black marketing, and smuggling.
According to a press release issued on Friday (April 10) by BGB Public Relations Officer Md. Shariful Islam, the force has taken strict measures to ensure uninterrupted supply and prevent abnormal price hikes in the market.
As part of the ongoing operation, a joint team of Narayanganj Battalion (62 BGB) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) conducted a raid at Tarabo Kazipara intersection in Rupganj upazila early Thursday morning.
During the operation, authorities seized approximately 2,000 liters of open soybean oil stored illegally in nine barrels from warehouses linked to two individuals, identified as Raju and Khorshed.
Sources said the oil had been collected from local markets, stored unlawfully, and later repackaged using fake labels under the brand names Bandhan Plus and Bismillah for resale. Legal action against those involved is currently underway.
BGB data shows that 5,425 liters of edible oil have been seized in the first three months of 2026 alone. Previously, authorities recovered 13,177 liters in 2024 and 30,092 liters in 2025, indicating an intensified crackdown on illegal trade.
To further curb smuggling and market manipulation, BGB has placed border areas on high alert, increased patrols, and strengthened intelligence operations. Searches of suspicious vehicles and warehouses have also been intensified.
Joint drives are being conducted in coordination with the Bangladesh Army, RAB, police, customs authorities, and local administration.
BGB stated that it remains committed to protecting consumers’ interests and maintaining stability in the market for essential commodities. The force has vowed to continue its strict stance against hoarding, smuggling, and illegal trade practices in the days ahead.
