DHAKA, April 9 (V7N) – Voting for the by-election in Bogura-6 constituency and the general election in Sherpur-3 constituency began today at 7:30 AM and will continue until 4:30 PM.

Although voting is underway in both constituencies, there will be no referendum as the "Yes" vote won by a significant margin in the national parliament elections.

Bogura-6 Constituency By-Election: The by-election in Bogura-6 features candidates Md. Rezaul Karim Badsha (BNP), Md. Abidur Rahman (Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami), and Md. Al-Amin Talukder (Bangladesh Development Party). The constituency has a total of 150 polling stations, 835 polling booths, and 450,309 voters.

Sherpur-3 Constituency General Election: In the Sherpur-3 constituency, the candidates are Md. Mahmudul Haque Rubel (BNP), Md. Masudur Rahman Masud (Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami), and Md. Mizanur Rahman (BASAD). This constituency has 128 polling stations, 751 polling booths, and 409,806 voters.

The Election Commission (EC) has assured that all necessary preparations have been made for smooth elections, and no security threats have been reported.

Security measures have been strengthened, with 36 executive and judicial magistrates deployed across both constituencies.

Additionally, 400 local observers and 18 EC observers are monitoring the polls, alongside around 5,000 polling officers (including presiding and assistant presiding officers).

Voter Assistance:

For the first time, the EC has introduced two convenient methods for voters to access polling information:

Smart Election Management BD App

Hotline Number – 105

These tools will help voters easily find information about their voter number and polling station.

The by-election in Bogura-6 follows the resignation of Tarique Rahman after he was elected to the Dhaka-17 constituency during the 13th National Election. The election in Sherpur-3 was postponed due to the death of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's candidate Nuruzzaman Badal.

Both elections were rescheduled by the EC after the initial setbacks, with today marking the start of the new voting process.
