Dhaka, Mar 15 (V7N) — Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, the Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami and opposition leader in Parliament, was stopped by Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed from raising questions outside the scope of discussion on Sunday, during the second day of the first session of the 13th National Parliament.
The incident occurred when Sultan Mahmud Babu was called to raise a question. At that point, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman stood up and began referencing the first day of the parliament session, emphasizing that the parliament was formed under a special context through the July mass uprising and highlighting public expectations. He also mentioned that two votes — the parliamentary election and a referendum — were held on the same day.
The Speaker intervened and instructed him to wait, stating, “You will be given the opportunity when the question-and-answer session is over.”
