Dhaka, Feb 15 (V7N) — Om Birla, Speaker of India’s Lok Sabha, will visit Dhaka to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Bangladesh’s new government. He will be accompanied by Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, diplomatic sources in New Delhi said.
Modi Unable to Attend
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was invited to the ceremony by Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, along with several other heads of government. However, he is unlikely to attend due to prior commitments.
The International AI Summit is scheduled to take place in India from February 16 to 20, bringing together multiple global leaders. In addition, Modi is set to hold a bilateral meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron on February 17 — the likely date of Bangladesh’s swearing-in ceremony.
Official Representation
Given these engagements, India will instead be represented by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. Their participation underscores India’s diplomatic presence at the ceremony despite the Prime Minister’s absence.
The swearing-in event, to be held at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, is expected to draw regional and international attention as Bangladesh’s new government formally assumes office.
