Dhaka, Oct 26 (V7N) — Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has expressed optimism that the upcoming national elections will be fair and participatory, assuring that a level playing field will be ensured for all parties.
He made the remarks at a press briefing following the Law and Order Advisory Council Committee meeting held at the Secretariat on Sunday.
The advisor said that initiatives are being taken to strengthen the law and order situation ahead of the elections. “If political parties resolve some internal issues and the public remains aware, the elections will be good,” he added.
Dismissing allegations of irregularities in postings and transfers, he urged the media to report any specific cases of misconduct if found.
Jahangir Alam further mentioned that the government plans to reduce the number of SIM cards registered under one person’s name — from the current limit of 10 to 2 cards, or at least 5–7 cards before the elections, to enhance security and prevent misuse.
When asked about the recent permission for a bulletproof car for Tarique Rahman, the advisor declined to comment directly, stating, “Anyone who applies for such permission will receive it if they meet the necessary conditions.”
The meeting also reviewed the country’s overall law and order situation in preparation for the elections.
