Dhaka, Oct 06 (V7N) – Interim Head of Government Dr. Muhammad Yunus emphasized the importance of strengthening international engagement at this crucial time for Bangladesh during a meeting with Alice Mogwe, President of the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), on Monday at the State Guest House Jamuna.
The two leaders discussed in detail the human rights situation in Bangladesh and global human rights concerns. Professor Yunus thanked Mogwe for her visit, highlighting that such interactions bring neglected issues to the forefront and compel serious consideration. He recalled his late friend, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, emphasizing their shared commitment to justice and human dignity.
The ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza was also a key topic. Mogwe praised the interim government’s efforts and Dr. Yunus’s solidarity with the people of Gaza. She lauded the government for its commitment to upholding human rights and democratic values, even in challenging circumstances.
Referring to Bangladesh’s recent history, Mogwe expressed concern about enforced disappearances and suppression of free expression during the past 15 years of dictatorship. She also highlighted the emergence of a young generation eager for change, noting their tremendous drive for progress and reform.
