Dhaka, Sep 25 (V7N) – The Lotus election symbol will not be allotted to any political party, and the Election Commission (EC) will not provide an explanation for the decision, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin said on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters at the EC headquarters in Agargaon, the CEC noted that the Nagorik Oikya first applied for the symbol, followed by the National Citizen Party (NCP), but it was ultimately withheld.

“This is a commission decision. The EC does not act at anyone’s instructions; we want to work impartially,” Nasir Uddin said. “We will not explain now regarding the national symbol. The commission considers various aspects in its decisions. If we go on explaining every decision, it will be difficult. The decision was taken unanimously.”

He added that parties may still send letters of objection, but the EC does not see any fault in its approach.

On the issue of new party registrations, the CEC acknowledged a delay. “Although the roadmap said new political parties would be registered this month, it is being delayed due to complaints against many parties. We are busy analyzing the information,” he said.

Reaffirming the timeline for the upcoming polls, the CEC stressed: “There is no doubt that the elections will be held in February. A level playing field will be ensured for all, and maximum force will be used if necessary.”
