Dhaka, Sep 25 (V7N) – Agriculture Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has assured that there is no fertilizer shortage anywhere in the country and that prices will remain stable under his supervision.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Secretariat on Thursday (Sept 25), the Advisor said all fertilizer syndicates have been dissolved. “A national committee is being formed to draft fertilizer policies, and major reforms are underway in the dealership sector. There will be no disruption in fertilizer supply due to gas shortages. Fertilizer arrears amounting to Tk 20,691 crore have already been cleared,” he stated.
Turning to crop prices, the Advisor admitted that despite a bumper potato harvest this year, farmers are not receiving fair prices. “We want potato prices to rise slightly so that farmers benefit,” he said.
Highlighting agricultural exports, he noted that Bangladeshi mangoes were exported to China for the first time this year, and expressed optimism that jackfruit (kathal) will also be exported starting next year.
