Dhaka, Sep 13 (V7N) – Badiul Alam Majumder, head of the Electoral Reform Commission, warned that Bangladesh is paying the price for mixing politics with corrupt teachers and students. He said such corrupt politics must end and called on political parties to demonstrate the necessary will.
Majumder made the remarks at a roundtable discussion titled “The Future of Democratic Bangladesh: People’s Thoughts and Expectations” held at Lakeshore, Dhaka, on Saturday.
He emphasized that the education system is being damaged through the politicization of students and teachers and stressed that students should remain students and teachers should remain teachers to prevent a slide toward dictatorship.
Majumder also highlighted the need for certain reforms to ensure the next national elections are free, fair, and impartial, noting that successful implementation depends on the goodwill of political parties.
