Dhaka, Sep 09 (V7N) – Financial Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed has assured that customers will not face any losses due to the ongoing bank merger process. He made the remarks at a press briefing following a meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Government Procurement held at the Secretariat on Tuesday (Sept 9).

The government has recently formed an eight-member working committee to implement the merger of five Shariah-based banks. The possible name of the newly merged entity is expected to be “United Islami Bank.”

“Bangladesh Bank has already taken a policy decision regarding the merger of these Islamic banks. Customers’ deposits and money will remain fully secure, and no one will suffer financial losses,” said Dr. Salehuddin.

He also revealed that a decision has been made to send 100,000 Bangladeshi workers to Japan, but emphasized the need for language proficiency and skill development. “A request has also been made for employment opportunities in Japan for those completing their PhD,” he added.

On procurement decisions, Dr. Salehuddin confirmed that the government has approved the purchase of 300 vehicles for field-level use in the upcoming national election. However, the Ministry of Finance has rejected a proposal from the Ministry of Public Administration to buy cars for ministers.
