Dhaka, Sep 07 (V7N) – Forest and Environment Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan has emphasized that the government is committed to promoting the evolution of the media and strengthening it as a true mass media institution. She said the government aims to implement reforms both on paper and in practice.

Advisor Rizwana Hasan made the remarks at a view-sharing meeting titled “Review of the Report of the Media Reform Commission”, organized by the Broadcast Journalist Center (BJC) at a hotel in Dhaka. She highlighted the formation of a separate commission to prioritize media development and reiterated that the government will take all necessary steps to protect journalists.

She also addressed the issue of mob violence, stating that the government is not only issuing statements to prevent such incidents but is also taking concrete action against perpetrators.

During the discussion, Fahim Ahmed, BJC trustee and CEO of Jamuna Television, stressed that media is the fourth pillar of society and questioned the progress made since August 5. He urged the government to recognize the recommendations of the Media Reform Commission to improve the current state of journalism in the country.

Barrister Sara Hossain, present at the meeting, highlighted the importance of ensuring the security and independence of journalists as a cornerstone of a free and responsible media.
