Dhaka, Aug 27 (V7N) – Three advisors of the interim government have assured strong measures to safeguard religious harmony following concerns raised by the Chandranath Dham (Kanchannath–Chandranath–Adinath) Shrine Committee, a historic place of worship for followers of traditional religions.
The meeting, held at Railway Bhaban at 10 am on Wednesday (August 27), was attended by Religious Affairs Advisor Dr. A. F. M. Khalid Hossain, Railway Advisor Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan, and Primary and Mass Education Advisor Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar.
During the discussion, Shrine Committee leaders said that provocative activities had been observed around the temple over the past five years, threatening the atmosphere of communal harmony.
In response, the three advisors directed field administration, law enforcement, and intelligence agencies to remain vigilant and to take immediate action against any attempts to incite unrest.
Religious Affairs Advisor Dr. Khalid Hossain emphasized, “Those who attack the establishments of other religions cannot be considered religious in any way. It is a crime, not religion. Any attempt to destroy harmony will face strict action.” He also encouraged sending the legitimate demands of minority religious followers to the Hindu Religious Welfare Trust.
Education Advisor Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar stressed that the interim government is committed to building “a non-discriminatory society for all, regardless of religion, caste, or class.”
Railway Advisor Fauzul Kabir Khan highlighted the historic and cultural significance of the Chandranath temple, warning that “any provocative activities that disrupt harmony will not be tolerated.”
Meanwhile, Shrine Committee President Apurba Kumar Bhattacharya raised safety concerns about the deteriorating condition of the temple stairs, which pose an accident risk. Advisor Fauzul Kabir Khan immediately instructed Chittagong LGRD Secretary Rezaul Maksud Zahedi to take urgent steps to repair the stairs.
