Dhaka, Aug 23 (V7N) – Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, has said that both Bangladesh and the United States have benefitted from the recent tariff negotiations, with Bangladesh successfully maintaining its commercial advantages.

Speaking at a seminar on the ‘Trump Tariff’ on Saturday morning, Alam said that despite concerns, Bangladesh’s export market is not only stable but poised for further growth.

“Many tried to fish in murky waters over the US tariff issue, but they were not successful,” Alam remarked. “We want to expand bilateral trade with the US, and purchase orders have already started increasing.”

Trade negotiators participating in the seminar advised strengthening ties with Japan, South Korea, and Europe, alongside maintaining momentum with the US. They also stressed the need for continued efforts to further reduce tariff rates in American markets.

The US administration had initially imposed a 35 percent counter-tariff on Bangladeshi goods. Following negotiations, the rate was reduced to 20 percent on July 31, providing much-needed relief for exporters.
