Dhaka, Aug 12 (V7N) – Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan has revealed critical details about his involvement in the recent political movement and alleged abuses by the Awami League-led government during his statement to the International Crimes Tribunal’s investigation agency.
In his written statement, Bhuiyan said that since Sheikh Hasina left the country on August 5, movement coordinators maintained contact with Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus and held meetings with BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman to strategize their efforts.
He recounted how he took on the role of a coordinator amid turbulent times and bravely resisted attacks from armed groups linked to the then ruling Awami League and its student wing, the Chhatra League.
Bhuiyan accused the Awami League of militarizing the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) for political gain, citing allegations of extrajudicial killings connected to the force. He also referenced the controversial 'mirror room' operated by the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI).
Describing his own disappearance on July 19, Bhuiyan explained that he was attempting to relocate to evade arrest. Due to internet shutdowns, he used cellular data, which was allegedly exploited by the DGFI to track and detain him. After the Awami League’s fall, he visited the so-called mirror house and found he had been held in a similar detention setup.
He called for exemplary punishment for those responsible, accusing the Awami League government, Sheikh Hasina, and the law enforcement agencies of orchestrating brutal torture and massacres against students involved in the protests.
