Dhaka, Aug 05 (V7N) – Former members of the Bangladesh Armed Forces have expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of recognition for their role in the historic July 2024 uprising that led to the ouster of Sheikh Hasina’s 15-year rule.

Speaking at a commemorative event held on Tuesday morning (August 5) at the RAOWA Convention Center in the capital, several ex-officers alleged that their contributions during the revolution were overlooked. They also claimed that their opinions were not consulted during the preparation of the July Declaration—a key document born out of the movement.

The anniversary event marked one year since the nationwide student uprising that forced Sheikh Hasina to leave the country. As tensions escalated in July last year, many former armed forces personnel had taken to the streets in solidarity with the students demanding change.

Recalling those moments, speakers at the event said that despite their visible presence and active involvement in the movement, their efforts have not been acknowledged in public narratives. "We stood with the people, we supported the students, yet we were ignored when history was written," one retired officer said.

In addition to calling for proper recognition, they also demanded expedited justice in longstanding unresolved cases, including the 2009 Pilkhana BDR massacre and the killing of Major Sinha in 2020.

The former officers reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to the nation, stating that the armed forces—active or retired—will always stand united to serve the country's interest in times of crisis.

The program concluded with a symbolic procession to honor the spirit of the July Revolution.
