Dhaka, July 28 (V7N) – The government has formed a nine-member high-level inquiry commission to investigate the Bangladesh Air Force plane crash that occurred on July 21 at Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka. The crash resulted in multiple casualties and significant damage to infrastructure, prompting a swift official response.

According to a Cabinet Division notification issued late Sunday (July 27), the commission has been tasked with determining the cause, responsibility, damages, and identifying legal and safety lapses related to the incident. The commission has been instructed to submit its report within four weeks.

The commission is being chaired by former Secretary AKM Zafar Ullah Khan. Other members include:

  • Air Vice Marshal (Retd) M Saeed Hossain, former Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Administration)

  • Additional Secretaries from the Ministry of Defence, Civil Aviation and Tourism, and Disaster Management and Relief

  • Dhaka Divisional Commissioner

  • Urban planner Professor Adil Muhammad Khan

  • BUET Professor Md. Ashikur Rahman, Department of Mechanical Engineering

  • Barrister Ashraf Ali, legal expert

The Dhaka Divisional Commissioner's Office will provide secretarial support to the commission.

The notification emphasized that the commission is empowered to visit any part of the country, summon individuals, and gather necessary testimony to facilitate a comprehensive inquiry.

The commission’s terms of reference include:

  • Investigating the aftermath, causes, and liabilities of the crash

  • Assessing all losses, including deaths and injuries to students, teachers, and others

  • Evaluating the location and safety compliance of Milestone School and surrounding structures near the airport

  • Reviewing the legality and administrative aspects of building permissions in flying zones

  • Making recommendations on preventing future accidents, improving training flight protocols, and enhancing emergency response mechanisms

The formation of the commission underscores the government’s intent to ensure accountability, improve aviation safety, and prevent recurrence of similar tragedies.
